JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eight months after RiversEdge opened, construction continues around one of Jacksonville’s newest green spaces, which brings events, fitness groups and community members to the Southbank.
If you take a walk along RiversEdge, you may wonder what’s currently under construction in Central Park.

The city of Jacksonville confirmed to News4JAX that the large structure currently being built will be a fully equipped outdoor entertainment amphitheater for public use. It will also include a restroom facility.
New renderings posted at the site showed a crowd of people sitting in the grass around a small covered stage.
The city said the amphitheater is expected to be finished by the end of the year and will be used for performances and other programming. City officials will also manage events, including reservations for groups interested in using the space.
As for capacity limits, attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs since the facility will not include fixed seating.
News4JAX also spoke with Preston Hollow Community Capital, which is developing the project with the Downtown Investment Authority.
Developers confirmed that the amphitheater marks the final public development at RiversEdge, and remaining vacant parcels are expected to be used for future vertical development, such as apartments or hotels, with public parking accessible to parkgoers.
