Justice Department and CFPB Put Landlords and Mortgage Servicers on Notice About Servicemembers’ and Veterans’ Rights
The Department of Justice and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued two joint letters today regarding important legal housing protections for military families. A second letter was sent to mortgage servicers regarding military borrowers who have already exited or will be exiting COVID-19 mortgage forbearance programs in the coming weeks and months. The result was numerous settlements with regulators, including a $186 million settlement between the Justice Department and some of the country’s largest mortgage servicers. In addition, under the CARES Act and Regulation X, servicemembers and veterans have the same protections available to all mortgage borrowers. The Justice Department and CFPB are calling on mortgage servicers and landlords to ensure that military homeowners and tenants are safeguarded during the pandemic and benefit equally from the nation’s economic recovery.justice.gov

Schools may also be able to provide a list of internet services that are providing free broadband access to low-income families. Since children crave routines and schedules, parents can create virtual schedules to create some structure during the day.
Long-term care residents find comfort with family on Thanksgiving
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Thanksgiving brought some much-needed family time for loved ones inside long-term care facilities, especially after COVID-19 put up restrictions making it a challenge for families to visit them. Families who set up an appointment had Thanksgiving dinner with their loved ones at Starling at San Jose in Jacksonville. “It’s been worth the quarantine to get to be with family,” said Jordan Alexander, who was visiting his grandparents. The Alexander family says they are having a Zoom Thanksgiving dinner later on Thursday so some other family members can see them. They also say they are incredibly thankful for the work Starling has done to keep residents safe and to make today happen.
