Young man shot up to 7 times dies at hospital, police say
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. โ A man who was shot up to seven times Thursday morning died at a hospital, according to Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office. Police said when they arrived they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds in the road on West 15th Street. Little information about what might have caused the shooting has been released, but police said two other people are involved. Investigators said shortly after the gunshot victim arrived at the hospital another man came to the hospital with an arm injury. Comparing the numbers: Jacksonville gun violence slightly down from this time last year
JACKSONVILLE, Fla โ The month of January is ending on a violent note. The Jacksonville Sheriffโs Office is investigating three separate shootings on Thursday that left five people injured. According to News4Jax records, overall gun violence numbers are slightly down this January compared to last January. News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said despite the positive trend, work still needs to be done to reduce violent crimes in the community. The city is also asking the state for funding to expand the โCure Violenceโ program launched last year in some of Jacksonvilleโs most violent neighborhoods.
Moms rally at MLK Day Parade following violent weekend in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla โ A group of moms wore red Monday while marching in Jacksonvilleโs MLK Day Parade to draw attention to gun violence. โWeโre just tired of all of the shootings," said Deirdre Beck, data leader with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. โBackground checks are extremely popular: 90% of Americans would like to see expanded background checks. The Moms Demand Action group met at the Prime Osborn Convention Center before being shuttled to the parade, where they joined the march. The group will host events the first week of February in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach in honor of National Survivors Remembrance Week.
