I learned this morning that the result of the test is positive,โ Passidomo, who is slated to become Senate president in 2022, tweeted. This week, lawmakers are holding the first of five weeks of committee meetings in advance of the 2021 session, which will begin March 2. The Senate is requiring members, staff and the news media to be tested for COVID-19 ahead of the meetings.

Nabbed for street racing, Florida man blasts โBad Boysโ
NAPLES, Fla. โ Florida authorities say that when two young men were pulled over for street racing, one of the drivers blasted the song โBad Boys,โ the opening theme to the TV show โCops.โThe Collier County Sheriff's Office said Oscar Llera Iturralde, 19, and Jose Ramirez-Sanchez, 20, were arrested and charged with racing on a public highway. A third man, Joel Aguilar Hernandez, 20, was charged with riding as a passenger in a race competition. The arrest report said he coordinated the race between the two vehicles. The sheriff's office says deputies saw the two cars drive past them when the passenger leaned out the window and yelled โ20 roll on three,โ which deputies say stands for โstart racing at 20 miles per hour.โThe deputies followed the cars, which began speeding after a traffic light turned green, going as fast as 95 miles per hour (about 153 kph), well over the 55 mile-per-hour limit on that stretch. After the drivers were pulled over, deputies say the youngest man, Llera Iturralde, blasted โBad Boysโ on his car stereo.

Forecasters predict 2 to 4 inches with isolated maximum amounts of 6 inches across west-central and southern Florida, including the Florida Keys, through Sunday. The depression is expected to grow into Tropical Storm Sally once it is over open water in the Gulf of Mexico later in the day. It will be the 18th named storm of this over-the-top hurricane season. Sally could intensify to a strong tropical storm or even Category 1 hurricane as it approaches the Mississippi/Louisiana coastline early Wednesday morning.

Southeastern Grocers will open Winn-Dixie supermarkets at closing Luckyโs stores in Gainesville, Melbourne, Fort Myers, Naples and Lake Mary. Luckyโs, which is reorganizing under Chapter 11 bankruptcy laws, initially intended to keep the Melbourne store open. Previously, Aldi agreed to take over six Luckyโs stores, while Publix Super Markets Inc. agreed to take over leases at five properties including the Luckyโs store in Neptune Beach. Luckyโs said Feb. 4 it entered into asset purchase agreements with Southeastern Grocers, Seabra Foods and Hitchcockโs Markets for seven locations in Florida.

When a social worker approached Legacy Options Funeral and Cremation Services, the owners said they knew they had to do something. "One of our ways of giving back to the community of Naples is we offer free funeral services to any indigent or homeless veterans," funeral director Michael Hoyt told CNN on Monday. News of his funeral services were shared widely on social media, including by CNN's Jake Tapper.

1992: White separatist Randy Weaver surrenders to authorities in Naples, Idaho, ending the Ruby Ridge Standoff, an 11-day siege by federal agents that claimed the lives of Weaver's wife and son and a deputy U.S. marshal. Weaver was ultimately acquitted of all charges except missing his original court date on an illegal weapon charge and violating his bail conditions, for which he was sentenced to 18 months and fined $10,000.
