The pueblos of Jemez and Laguna are the latest to raise concerns over inadequate protections for local water sources in the desert Southwest. New Mexico was among the states that went to court last May seeking to prevent the rule from taking effect. Jemez Pueblo depends on federal authority under the act to protect waters outside its jurisdiction.

Forecast for spring: Nasty drought worsens for much of US

And nearly all of the continental United States is looking at warmer than normal spring, except for tiny parts of the Pacific Northwest and southeast Alaska, which makes drought worse. “It’s definitely something we’re watching and very concerned about.”NOAA expects the spring drought to hit 74 million people. AdMore than 44% of the nation is in moderate or worse drought, and nearly 18% is in extreme or exceptional drought — all of it west of the Mississippi River. AdWinter and spring wheat crops also have been hit hard by the western drought with 78% of the spring wheat production area in drought conditions, Rippey said. Most major US airlines ban guns in luggage for DC flights

Delta, United and Alaska airlines said Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 they will bar passengers flying to Washington from putting guns in checked bags. The moves follow the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol by supporters of President Donald Trump and politically tinged confrontations on some flights. American Airlines is bringing back a ban on serving alcohol on flights to and from the Washington area — flights go dry starting Saturday through next Thursday. Price also said that it is “a good idea” to prohibit passengers from putting guns in checked bags if they are flying to Washington. Federal law allows passengers to put guns in checked baggage if they are unloaded and in a locked, hard-sided case, although airlines have the discretion to ban guns.

United will allow passengers to avoid 737 Max flights

An American Airlines Boeing 737 Max 8, on a flight from Miami to New York City, comes in for landing at LaGuardia Airport on March 11, 2019, in the Queens borough of New York City. Boeing's stock dropped more than 12 percent at the open on(CNN) - United Airlines passengers fearful of boarding a Boeing 737 Max will be able to rebook flights for free once United starts flying the planes again. Nocella said it's probably too soon to tell what passenger reaction will be once the 737 Max returns to service. A spokesperson said that if a passenger does not want to fly the 737 Max, "we will offer them full flexibility." It's unclear when the 737 Max will return to the skies.

American Airlines extends Boeing 737 Max cancellations through Dec. 3

A Boeing 737 MAX airplane is pictured on he tarmac with its signature winglet and fuel efficient engines outside the company's factory on March 11, 2019 in Renton, Washington. (CNN) - American Airlines announced Sunday it will extend cancellations of flights on the Boeing 737 Max through December 3. Announcing the cancellations so far in advance gives American Airlines time to assign new aircraft to 737 Max routes or rebook customers whose flights were canceled. United Airlines took a similar step Friday, canceling 90 daily flights due to the 737 Max until December 19. The 737 Max was grounded worldwide in March following two fatal crashes in less than six months.

United extends flight cancellations due to 737 Max

KOMO via CNN(CNN) - United Airlines has pushed back its flight cancellations due to the Boeing 737 Max grounding until December 19. United had previously canceled flights through November 3. The planes were grounded in March after an automatic safety feature on the 737 Max -- the company's best-selling plane -- was tied to fatal crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia. Southwest, which has more 737 Max planes in its fleet than any other US airline, has canceled about 180 daily flights through January 5. American, the other US carrier with the 737 Max in its fleet, has thus far only canceled about 115 flights a day through November 2.

Search shifts to the Carolinas for missing boaters

For today, the marine forecast near Cape Hattereas calls for mostly sunny, with a high near 84. Southwest wind 15 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Southwest wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Overcast to partly sunny, with a high near 87. Breezy, with a southwest wind 18 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

American is 1st US airline to drop route because of 737 Max grounding

Copyright 2019 CNN(CNN) - Getting from Dallas to Oakland just got a bit more difficult because of the Boeing 737 Max crisis. American, United and Southwest have canceled hundreds of daily flights following the worldwide grounding of the 737 Max in March after two fatal crashes. But American flew one daily route from Oakland to its home base at Dallas-Fort Worth and back. It is now apparent that the 737 Max will be grounded through at least late this year. Last week Southwest announced its canceled flights would be extended until at least October 1.

Delta has good quarter, unlike other airlines

Justin Sullivan/Getty Images(CNN) - US airlines had a rocky quarter, but Delta was the notable exception. Unlike American Airlines, United and Southwest, Delta Air Lines was not forced to cancel flights in the quarter due to the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max because the airline doesn't own that plane. Delta said that its total revenue grew between 8% and 8.5% for the quarter that ended Saturday. Profits should also hit the top end of its guidance since profit margins should be about 1% better than expected. Shares of American, United and Southwest were also narrowly higher on Delta's signal of a strong fare environment.
