Ability Housing on Thursday announced plans for a new affordable housing community in St. Johns County.

Data collected by NEFAR shows that St. Johns County is the least affordable county of the eight counties in the area.

A new project approved this week by county commissioners has a specific goal in mind — to provide more homes for people who work as teachers and first responders.

The medical center is part of St. Johns County’s plan for more than $51 million of federal funding it is getting from the American Rescue Plan.

One person was found dead after a house fire Friday afternoon in the West Augustine neighborhood, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.

Dozens of volunteers picked up trash and recycling off the streets, as littering is a major problem in the neighborhood, organizers said.

This Saturday the first 3rd Saturday Market of the year is back in West Augustine. The vendor market focuses on connecting the community with vendors from St. John’s County and surrounding areas. While there will be plenty of shopping opportunities, families can come out and enjoy the experience with live music and food trucks. It is also an opportunity to showcase the history of West Augustine. The 3rd Saturday Market is held every month from 10am to 3pm at 760 West King St. in St. Augustine.

Family members say a couple was leaving a convenience store after having just purchased some lottery tickets moments before a deadly shooting in the West Augustine neighborhood of St. Johns County.

Deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office were sent to investigate a shooting Wednesday night in West Augustine.

The project has raised more than $12,000 for material and labor, while additional funds for a staircase, ladders, fans and lights are still needed.
