JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – News4Jax continues our series reviewing daycare inspection reports from the Department of Children and Families.
Of 14 reports provided by DCF this week, seven facilities were compliant on all 63 areas of inspection. But seven facilities had violations, including three facilities with more than five violations each.
Good Shepherd Christian Academy on Wes Edgewood Avenue had seven violations, including a more serious Class 2 violation regarding unsafe outdoor play equipment. The report said a wooden step leading to a play structure was broken off with nails exposed and a the jungle gym and bouncing seats were visibly rusted. Good Shepherd's other violations involved paperwork issues.
Kids World of Florida on Oak Street had six violations during its inspection. Most involved personnel records and paperwork, but one was a Class 2 violation regarding out-of-date background screenings for employees.
Little Smiles Learning Academy on Leonid Road also had six violations. All were Class 3 violations and most involved incomplete training requirements for personnel or incomplete documentation. But one violation stemmed from malfunctioning temperature control equipment for food.
Powers Challengers on Barnes Road had two violations, including a Class 2 violation regarding the facility's driver not having a valid first aid certification on file.
Lutheran Services Florida Northshore Elementary Head Start on Silver Plaza and Bright Future Learning Center on Old Kings Road South each had two violations regarding record keeping issues.
And All Saints Early Learning and Community Care Center on Hendricks Avenue had one violation about a child not being signed into an attendance record.
The seven facilities with unblemished inspections were:
- Bright Horizons at the Avenues on Southside Boulevard
- Methodist Children's Village on Herlong Road
- Amelia Island Montessori School on Julia Street in Fernandina Beach
- Brighter Futures Learning Center on Lem Turner Road
- A Bright Beginning Childcare on Old Kings Road South
- Little People Child Care Center II on Lenox Avenue
- San Jose Catholic School Pre-K 2 on Toledo Road
