Jose Faustino de la Cruz-Polonio, 28, and the driver of the pickup, 58-year-old Edward Smith, of Madison, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers said Cruz-Polonio was suspected of hitting another car on U.S. Highway 41 about 2 miles south of Jennings and leaving the scene about 10 minutes before causing the fatal wreck.
The preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol may be a factor in the crash, according to the FHP report.
