Person Who Shot Man, Boy Sought By Police

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville police have released the identity of a man shot and killed at a Northwest Jacksonville park Friday evening.

Police said 23-year-old Charles Jenkins and a 9-year-old boy were shot during a large fight at Beverly Hills Park in the 4500 block of Portsmouth Avenue just after 7 p.m. Friday.

Police said that when officers arrived, they saw a large group of people running down the street. Police said Jenkins was driven to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said rescuers took the child, whose identity police did not release, to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The child was expected to survive.

Police did not release any other details about the double shooting. Investigators were still looking for the shooter.
