Man Charged With 2 Counts Of DUI Manslaughter In 2009 Crash
MACCLENNY, Fla. – A man turned himself into the Baker County Sheriff's Office on Thursday on two counts of DUI manslaughter and other charges in the February 2009 crash that killed two men.
David Moody, 33, of Orange Park, is now charged in the crash on state Road 121 south of Macclenny near Bobby Sapp Road in which one man in his car died, along with the man driving the pickup truck troopers said he crashed into.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Moody's car was heading south on state Road 121 when it crossed into the oncoming lane and struck the northbound pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup -- Arthur Hewett, 61, of Lake Butler -- died at the scene. The car overturned, killing 21-year-old Charles Sharp of Jacksonville. Moody suffered only a minor injury.
Immediately after the crash, Florida Highway Patrol homicide investigators said they were trying to determine whether Sharp or Moody was driving the car.
