When police got to the apartment complex, 42-year-old Nestor Habarugira told officers he was responsible for killing 35-year-old Ruth Owino, police said.

Police said there were not prior calls about domestic violence between the couple.

Police said the fight began when Owino told Habarugira she no longer wanted to be engaged.

Owino is from Kenya and Habarugira is from Burundi, police said.

The couple had four children together and a victim's advocate is working with the children and their aunt, police said.

Police said Habarugira was arrested and charged with Owino's murder.
