Repainting project starts on A1A bridge in Nassau Co.

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation this week started a project to repaint the Thomas B. Shave Jr. Bridge over the Amelia River on State Road A1A in Nassau County.

Minor structural repairs will also be part of the $3 million project, officials said. They said the main spans will be sandblasted and repainted, and the work should last about a year.

The bridge was built in 1978 and was last repainted in 1997. The light green color of the bridge will remain.

Occasional lane closings at night will be needed for the work, officials said. Lane closings are allowed between 6:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

Gemstone, LLC of Key West is the contractor on the job. The Jacksonville office of Atkins North America Inc. is providing project management services for the FDOT.
