Charges filed in deputy-involved crash
Deputy was assisting charity motorcycle event when hit by car
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Charges have been filed against the woman accused of causing a motorcycle crash involving a St. Johns County deputy last Saturday.
Deputy Greg Dubowsky was assisting the Ride for Smiles event along State Road A1A in Ponte Vedra at the time.
Investigators said 61-year-old Joan Wilkie, of Illinois, pulled out in front, causing Dubowsky to crash.
Wilkie has been charged with violating the right of way by making a left turn.
Dubowsky is still in a hospital in stable condition, upgraded from critical, and is expected to remain there for the next several weeks, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office said Dubowsky will likely not be able to return to work for several months because of his injuries.
The Sheriff's Office said it has received numerous inquiries from the community about donations for the Dubowsky family. Anyone who wishes to contribute may make donations to an account that has been established at Prosperity Bank. The account is listed as the Deputy Greg Dubowsky account.
