ORLANDO, Fla. – Jose Baez, the attorney for Casey Anthony, has released his tell-all book about Anthony's murder trial.
In the 421-page book, 'Presumed Guilty, Casey Anthony: The Inside Story' Baez talks about what went on behind closed doors of the courtroom, where Anthony was acquitted in July 2011 of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.
Baez said he believed Caylee was dead early on, even though Anthony was still telling him a babysitter kidnapped her. Baez writes in his book that it was in early 2009, more than seven months after Caylee vanished and a couple of months after her body was found, that Anthony told Baez that Caylee had drowned in the swimming pool and that Anthony's father had molested her.
Baez writes of Anthony's mental health issues, which he says contributed to her habitual lying and that detectives should have realized Anthony had built a "fantasy world." Baez writes her lies weren't evidence of guilt but signs of someone with "serious mental health issues."
Anthony originally told detectives that her daughter, Caylee, was taken by a babysitter in June 2008, and that she didn't report her missing for more than a month because she was searching for the toddler on her own. During Anthony's trial last year, Baez argued that the little girl accidentally drowned in the family swimming pool while Anthony and her father, George, were at home. Anthony panicked from the traumatic effects of being sexually abused by her father and George Anthony hid the body, according to the defense argument.
Baez writes that Anthony described the drowning and molestation to him in early 2009 and that he believed Caylee was dead early on. George Anthony denied the defense's allegations that he abused Casey and helped her cover up Caylee's death.
"Tears flowed from Casey's eyes. I'd never seen her break down like this," Baez wrote.
In the book, Baez said he believed it and thought no jury would ever believe her if she testified about it, so he looked for evidence to back it up-like the pool ladder being left in and George Anthony contradicting himself in various police interviews.
Baez also doesn't say where Anthony is hiding but he provides a glimpse of the first few hours after she was released from jail last July, time mostly devoted to eluding the media. He said her first meal was Steak & Shake on East Colonial Drive, where she ordered a cheeseburger, fries and a chocolate shake.
At the Orlando Executive Airport, Anthony and her defense team took a plane to the St. George Island and then to New York City a few days later. Baez also writes of the landing at a small airport in the panhandle where the defense team learned the small airport was closed and had no lights, so one of the defense lawyers, Dorothy Clay Sims, flashed the headlights of her car so the pilot could see where the airport was.
Baez wrote in his book he cringed at the thought of a plane crash.
"I said to myself, 'Oh my God. After all this I'm going to die in a f****** plane crash with Casey Anthony. This is a blogger's dream come true,'" Baez wrote.
Anthony is currently probation on check fraud charges at an undisclosed location in Florida. According to a People magazine article, Anthony has reconciled with her mother, Cindy, and they have made a pact to wear matching necklaces that carry the ashes of Caylee.
