Jacksonville driver crashes into S. Fla. nursing home, dies

4 residents taken to hospital

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A car crashed into the Watercrest Care Center in North Miami Beach early Wednesday morning, killing the driver and sending four residents people to the hospital.

Police said 27-year-old Enrique Linares, who had a Jacksonville address, was traveling at a high speed south on Dixie Highway when the car hit a curb, went through a fence, and then traveled over an incline, which launched the car into the air.

The red Honda ended up lodged in the building between the first and second floors.

Residents of the nursing home live on the other side of the wall that the car ran through. Four of them were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be OK.

Building inspectors are also on the scene trying to fix the wall where the car entered the building. They say in its current state, the building is structurally unsound.
