Deputies: Publix wallet thief stalks elderly shopper

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying a woman they said stalked an elderly shopper and stole her wallet at a Publix grocery store.

Deputies said the woman walked the aisles of the store in the 500 block of Oakmont Drive without purchasing anything for quite a while, and stepped close to the victim's shopping cart when her back was turned to steal her wallet.

Deputies said the victim's purse was in the top part of her cart with a clipboard over it. When she went to pay, she noticed her wallet was missing.

The woman told police she had $300 cash in her wallet, along with credit cards and other personal information.

Although the theft occurred in Clay County, there is evidence that the victim's credit card was used at gas stations in Jacksonville, deputies said.

The theft occurred Sept. 25.

Anyone with information about the woman's identity is asked to call the Clay County Sheriff's Office at 904-264-6512.
