Police: Resident shoots robbery suspect

GLYNN COUNTY, Fla. – A 45-year-old man was shot several times by a homeowner who was being robbed at his home, according to Glynn County police.

Police were called to an attempted robbery in the 200 block of Poplar Street about 11 p.m. Saturday.

They said the 36-year-old resident reported hearing the doorbell ring but didn't see anyone. Shortly thereafter, he heard the doorbell again and answered the door but had his handgun with him for his safety, police said.

When the resident stepped onto the porch, he was approached by a man who lunged at him, police said. The suspect, identified as Anthony Devine, was wearing a mask, police said.

They said the resident fired numerous times at Devine with a .45 caliber handgun, then ran into his house and called 911.

When officers arrived, they found the suspect near the front door with several gunshot wounds to his back and butt.

Devine was taken to a hospital, then transferred to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
