Lake City police said they were called to an apartment in the 300 block of Northwest Lake City Avenue just after 9 p.m. and found the victim's body.

Eric Haenisch was found in a room at the Cabot Lodge hotel in the 3500 block of U.S. Highway 90, where a short time later he surrendered to law enforcement officials.

While officers were at the apartment, the Police Department said it received a call from the victim's wife saying she was out of town and her son was on her cellphone and told her he shot and killed his dad.

The suspect's mother said her son had left the apartment and may have been in a red Dodge Durango.

A short time later, officers found the SUV at the hotel and verified Eric Haenisch was in a room there.

Nearby rooms were evacuated, and police said when the teen heard commotion and saw officers, he surrendered.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and state attorney's office are assisting in the investigation.
