Shad Khan to present plan to Downtown Investment Authority

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A plan to revitalize the downtown shipyards will be presented to the Downtown Investment Authority on Tuesday,

Jaguars owner Shad Khan unveiled his plans for the shipyards last week, showing an animation created by Populous showing the proposed riverfront development.

The big question: the price tag.

All around Jacksonville people are talking about Khan's vision for the city-owned, 48-acre property. Khan's vision includes apartments, office space, an amphitheater, hotel, marina and more.

"It's a beautiful city, and it's kind of a sleepy town. It would be really fun to see things get a little more exciting," said Jennifer Croy, who's excited about the proposal.

On Monday, Khan and his company will formally submit the plans. Other interested groups interested can submit proposals as well.

"I think we're proposing something that makes Jacksonville better," Khan said. "(That) makes us a more stable franchise. By doing it, it's almost a catalyst to change the city in a good way."

Other residents agreed this is what the city needs, although some people have more questions in regards to the cost of the project and specifically who is will foot the bill. Monday, we're expecting to learn if taxpayers will be paying for it.
