2 dead after motorcycle crash on Westside

Motorcycle, van collide in intersection; van crashes through fence

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people died after a motorcycle and a van collided early Saturday morning at the intersection of Blanding Boulevard and San Juan Avenue.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, 23-year-old Walter Hankins was driving a motorcycle westbound on San Juan Avenue and ran a red light at Blanding Boulevard.

Police said the motorcycle hit the side of a van headed southbound on Blanding Boulevard. The van left the road and knocked down the fence on the property of USA Tires at 4710 San Juan Ave. 

Police said Hankins and his 23-year-old passenger, Delaina N. Fulghum, were thrown from the motorcycle. Fulghum died at the scene, and Hankins was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Police have not said if the driver of the van suffered any injuries.

The JSO Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is investigating.
