Motorcyclist hurt in Westside crash

Police: Motorcyclist not wearing a helmet

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said a motorcyclist lost control and crashed near Normandy Boulevard on the Westside Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses told police that the motorcyclist was heading south on Bicentennial Drive just before 5 p.m., approaching a curve just before Normandy Boulevard.  The motorcyclist lost control and went into a ditch.  The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle.

Police said the victim was not responsive but was breathing.  The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville and may have had life-threatening injuries.

Police said it appears the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

The victim's name has not yet been released.  JSO Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating.
