GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A bomb scare that prompted the evacuation of a Gainesville gas station Wednesday evening was cleared after being checked by authorities.

Deputies went to the Kangaroo gas station on West 13th Street about 7:25 p.m. after a suspicious device was spotted at the gas station.

Traffic was closed at 13th Street and Williston Road and the Kangaroo was evacuated due to the device, the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said.

Police said the device looked like it could be either a credit card skimmer or a an explosive device because there were batteries and wires attached to it.

The bomb squad arrived and determined the device was not explosive. Deputies reopened the road and gas station at 8:30 p.m.
