Woman accused of threatening husband and caretaker with rifle

Rebecca Barnhill-Griffis booked into Putnam County Jail without bond

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A Melrose woman was arrested Monday evening after threatening her husband and his aunt's caretaker with a rifle at her home, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Rebecca Lee Barnhill-Griffis is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of domestic violence battery against her husband, 54-year-old Tracy Griffis.

Deputies said Tracy Griffis' aunt, who is 85-years-old, was blind and lived with the couple. They had a visiting caretaker for her.

The caretaker reported when she arrived at the home Monday evening, the couple was arguing and it appeared the situation was becoming dangerous. The caretaker called 911.

At that time, Barnhill-Griffis walked into a bedroom and emerged with a rifle, pointing it at the caretaker, according to deputies.

The caretaker was on the phone with the Sheriff's Office and Barnhill-Griffis walked back into the bedroom with the rifle, deputies said.

Tracy Griffis told deputies his wife slapped him and pointed the rifle at him too. He was able to recover the rifle from her and remove all the firearms from the house, according to deputies.

Barnhill-Griffis was booked into the Putnam County Jail without bond.
