TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has signed onto a multi-state lawsuit challenging an Obama administration rule that requires reduced carbon emissions from power plants.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, is spearheaded by West Virginia and includes two dozen states.
It alleges that the Environmental Protection Agency overstepped its legal authority in approving the rule, which is aimed, at least in part, at addressing climate change.
West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey's office said the rule would require "costly compliance measures" or closure for coal-fired power plants.
"The Clean Power Plan is one of the most far-reaching energy regulations in this nation's history," Morrisey said in a prepared statement. "West Virginia is proud to be leading the charge against this administration's blatant and unprecedented attack on coal."
