Man sentenced for beating man with broken piece of asphalt

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bernard Calvin Hicks, 46, was sentenced to 16 years in prison Friday for an armed robbery attempt in March 2014, police said.

Officers found Hicks in a home on Post Street last March on top of an elderly man who was covered in blood. Investigation revealed that Hicks knocked on the man's door and asked to use the bathroom. Once the door opened, Hicks forced his way inside and hit the man in the face with a broken piece of asphalt.
