Man in critical condition after high-speed accident

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol says a man suffered critical injuries after his Ford Fiesta flipped Sunday.

Troopers said the man was driving at a high rate of speed at 5:30 a.m. Sunday and lost control of his car, hitting palm trees on Atlantic Boulevard and 3rd Street in Neptune Beach.

Witnesses told News4Jax the man was driving over 100 mph and sliced a tree in half.

FHP has not released the man's name because next of kin has not been notified.

Troopers said the driver was ejected from the car during the crash. He was taken to UF Health.

Charges are pending.
