Driver going through purse hurt in Columbia County accident, FHP says

Woman faces charges of failure to drive in single lane, no seat belt

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after an accident just before 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Columbia County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the woman who was traveling north on County Road 245 in a Mazda vehicle was digging in her purse when she veered to the right onto the east shoulder while the Mazda was rotating clockwise and struck a culvert with its undercarriage.

The Mazda went airborne while overturning after striking the culvert, troopers said. The Mazda came to a rest facing southeast on the east shoulder of C.R. 245.

Troopers said the woman was airlifted to Shands UF at Gainesville with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman faces charges including failure to drive in a single lane and no seat belt, according to the FHP's report.
