Red Cross helping Lake City homeowner after storm

Tree fell on home during strong thunderstorm

LAKE CITY, Fla. – The American Red Cross is helping a Lake City homeowner whose home was damaged when a large tree toppled onto the roof during a strong thunderstorm Sunday evening.

Columbia County Emergency Management said the home at 374 SE Forest Terrace was the only one that received significant damage during the storm.

The homeowner was not at home when the tree fell on the roof. 

Roughly 3,000 residents were left without power during the storm.

The National Weather Service said a microburst, which is a small downdraft that moves in a way opposite to a tornado, caused the damage.
