Slain teen's father donates check to Clara White Mission

Local attorney, Omorosa donate turkeys

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Wednesday marked the 4-year anniversary of the shooting death of Jordan Davis, 17, at a Southside gas station over loud music. In light of the tragedy, his father and a Florida attorney made a donation to the Clara Mission Foundation.

Jordan Davis’ father, Ron Davis, said even after four years, the wounds from his son’s death still feel fresh. He said he and his family are healing by keeping Jordan Davis' spirit alive.

"The work I'm trying to do is to create a legacy for Jordan, and the legacy is giving,” Ron Davis said. “It's not about taking."

Ron Davis donated a check alongside attorney John Phillips and celebrity Omorosa, who donated more than a dozen turkeys to the Clara White Mission.

"This is a $500 donation from the Jordan Davis Foundation,” Ron David said as he presented the check. “Every year, you're going to get a check from us."

Phillips represented the Davis family during the years-long legal process over the Stand Your Ground law.

"It's hard,” Phillips said. “He's out there looking for his own form of justice, but justice was already served."
Michael Dunn was ultimately sentenced to life in prison on a first-degree murder charge for the killing of Jordan Davis. Dunn recently filed for an appeal, which was denied

Phillips said more appeals could be filed in the future but expects they won't hold up in court.

"He's entitled to appeal to the Supreme Court, and if they choose to hear it, me and his mother and all of our supporters will be right there, fighting alongside, to make sure he doesn't get out," Phillips said.

The Davis family said they are trying to heal the only way they know how by giving back in Davis' honor. Ron Davis said in lieu of a vigil, he’s going to the beach, a place where he and his son shared many memories.

"The way you heal is giving,” Davis said. “The way you heal is love."
