ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A man from Michigan was ticketed Wednesday evening, accused of following too closely after he rear-ended a car in a crash that sent both vehicles off the road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The wreck took place just after 7:45 p.m., at Interstate 95 and SR-16 in St. Johns County, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Gary White, 65, from Warren, Michigan, had one passenger with him at the time, 66-year-old Bettie Spence, also from the same city.

White, behind the wheel of a Toyota IA, was driving on the entrance ramp from the westbound lane of SR-16 to the northbound side of I-95 when he hit a Ford Taurus.

Jermey Banks, 29, of St. Augustine, had to firmly apply the brakes due to traffic that had stopped quickly in front of him, police said.

White tried to brake, but couldn’t do it in time. Both cars ended up off the right side of the roadway, the FHP said.
