Police: Teen injured in Northwest Jacksonville drive-by shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A teenage boy was injured Monday afternoon in a drive-by shooting in Northwest Jacksonville, police said.

Two teenagers were walking on Benedict Road just before 3 p.m. when a white Honda with tinted windows drove past, and shots were fired from inside the sedan, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

A 16-year-old was hit in the leg and taken to UF Health with non-life-threatening injuries, JSO Lt. Ellis Burns said. The other teenage boy was not hurt.

Burns said there's no indication that the drive-by is connected to any recent shootings with possible gang connections.

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
