21-year-old arrested after woman, baby stroller struck by car

Baby taken to Gainesville hospital, Palatka firefighters say

PALATKA, Fla. – A 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday hours after a woman and 1-year-old in a stroller were struck while crossing a Palatka intersection by a car that left the scene before police arrived.

The crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. at an intersection of Crill Avenue. The woman and her baby were taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville with what Palatka firefighters described as minor injuries.

Police said Clayton Lyman was arrested after the vehicle involved was located on Emmett Street. He was charged with driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries. He was ordered held on $3,000 bond.

According to his driving record, Lyman had two speeding tickets and a citation for not having proof of insurance. His license was suspended when he didn't pay the fine.
