Man shot multiple times in serious condition

Neighbors heard multiple gunshots, saw car speed away

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville police are looking for a shooter after a man was found shot multiple times outside a home Saturday evening in the San Souci neighborhood.

Investigators said the victim is between 20 and 30 years old, and was found in a yard on Belinda Circle. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

One of the man’s neighbors, Ellen McKee, said she heard the gunshots and tried to help the man before paramedics arrived. She said she hasn’t seen anything like that in the four years she’s lived in the neighborhood.

“It’s very shocking when it comes to your neighborhood,” McKee said. “And that’s what happened, it came here. It doesn’t live here.”

One witness told News4Jax that she saw the man standing in front of a tree when she heard a gunshot. She looked outside, and heard three more before seeing a car speed off. She said the man slowly started making his way toward her house, where he collapsed in the driveway.

Neighbors said there usually isn’t much crime in the area. According to records, in the past six months, within a half mile of where the man was shot, there were three vehicle break-ins, seven assaults, one robbery, one vehicle theft and various other crimes, but none of them on Belinda Court.

“It’s frightening to me, and it needs to stop. Period. This has got to stop -- using guns -- it’s got to stop,” McKee said.

The man has not been identified. Police have not given a description of the shooter, but they said there may be two shooters that got away.
