Coast Guard rescues 3 fishermen near St. Simons Island

Fishermen rescued after boat began taking on water, officials say

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Three fishermen were rescued Thursday after their boat began taking on water near St. Simons Island, Georgia, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

Watch standers received a call at 1:54 p.m. from a good Samaritan who said the Lady Vanessa, a 73-foot fishing vessel, was taking on water with three people on board.

Officials said a boat crew and two helicopter crews went to assist about 2:20 p.m.

The helicopter crew arrived at 2:46 p.m., hoisted the three fishermen and took them to St. Simons Island Airport to awaiting emergency medical services personnel, officials said.
