JEA offering customers chance to invest in solar energy

Customers can receive energy from solar, even without private solar systems

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JEA has begun offering a new optional rate for customers who wish to invest in and participate in solar energy in Jacksonville.

With JEA's SolarSmart program, customers can choose to receive a percentage of their energy, from 1 percent to 100 percent, from the new program through the community solar program by JEA.

The cost of the program can vary based on a number of factors, but a customer with an average account, who decides to participate at one percent will pay about $0.40 extra on their monthly bill; at 10 percent they will pay about $4 more per bill; 50 percent enrollment in JEA SolarSmart will increase their bill about $20.

JEA SolarSmart allows those who cannot install private solar to participate in renewable energy, including those in rental properties, multi-family housing apartments or condominiums, commercial tenants, and homeowners whose houses have insufficient sunlight exposure.
