Police: Man sought after shooting 28-year-old in back

Jerome 'Pooh' Royal considered armed, dangerous, police say

PALATKA, Fla. – Palatka police are searching for an armed, dangerous man they said shot a 28-year-old man in the back Tuesday night.

According to the Palatka Police Department, officers were called to Washington Street about 9 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a shooting.

They found the victim, who News4Jax is not naming, lying on the ground, surrounded by a crowd of people and bleeding from a gunshot wound in his back.

He was taken to Orange Park Medical Center and treated for a non-life-threatening wound, police said.

He told police the man who shot him was 24-year-old Jerome “Pooh” Royal of Elkton.

Police learned Royal might have been hiding at a home in Hastings, and the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office assisted in serving a warrant at the home, but Royal wasn't there.

He is currently being sought on an active warrant for aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violation of probation.
