FHP: Deadly crash closes northbound lanes of US 301

Pedestrian hit, killed while trying to cross highway

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pedestrian died Saturday after being hit by a car on U.S. 301 at Normandy Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol.

Alvin Chadwick Padgett, 45, was trying to cross the highway when he was struck by Jerry Lee Walden III, 29, driving a Dodge Ram truck, troopers said. 

The crash was reported just after 6 a.m. Troopers told News4Jax that the Walden did stop and was cooperating.

Padgett was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. 

All northbound lanes of US 301 were closed while FHP investigated and cleared the crash.
