JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two women are charged in separate embezzlement cases, in which they’re accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from their employers.

Wanda Carter, 62 -- a 20-year employee of both W.W. Gay Fire and Integrated Systems, and Associated Engineering Consulting, who handled their payrolls -- is charged with moving more than $273,000 from the businesses’ bank accounts into her own bank account.

When her scheme was discovered, she told her boss she was having financial problems and had to pay bills, according to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report.

Brenda Bennett, 56, is accused of forging checks totaling $70,000 from Sawcross Inc. Contractors and Engineers, where she worked as an office clerk.
