Deputies: Woman sought after pursuit of stolen vehicle, patrol car rammed

Search underway in CR 210 area after driver of stolen car runs off, deputies say

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A woman is being sought after a pursuit of a stolen car Tuesday evening ended with a deputy's cruiser being hit, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

The events began to unfold when deputies said they were alerted to a stolen car and located that car near the Julington Creek Bridge. That's where deputies said they began pursuing the driver.

The chase came to an end just before 9 p.m. when a deputy's patrol vehicle was rammed by the stolen car on County Road 210 at Interstate 95, near the Phantom Fireworks, according to the Sheriff's Office. The deputy was reportedly uninjured.

A Sheriff's Office spokesman said the people in the stolen car ran off after the chase ended, but deputies were able to locate three of them soon after.

As of 11 p.m., however, deputies said they were still looking for a fourth person --  the woman who had been driving the stolen car.

The search for the driver was underway for several hours in the area of C.R. 210 and I-95, and the Florida Highway Patrol and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office were called to the scene. K-9s could be seen searching a wooded area in a nearby neighborhood on Sampson Way as a helicopter searched from above. Deputies urged people living in the area to lock their doors and their cars.

The Sheriff's Office announced about 11:10 p.m. it was scaling back the search efforts, but would continue to have several deputies in the area overnight.

Anyone who sees someone wandering around the area of C.R. 210 and I-95 is urged to call the Sheriff's Office at 904-824-8304.

Investigators said they will be interviewing the three passengers in the stolen car in an attempt to identify the driver and to see whether they could face any charges.
