Michael Land was in work-release program in Jacksonville serving the last five months of a five-year sentence for a strong-arm robbery when he disappeared without authorization Wednesday.

According to the arrest report, Land was reported missing by Bridge of America after he got angry when told he wasn't scheduled to work. Officers said he ran into nearby woods and cut off his ankle monitor.

Land was picked up by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office about an hour later at a convenience store.

Rather than finishing up his sentence in November, he could face up to eight more years in prison if convicted of escape.

The Florida Department of Corrections said inmates with minimal time left on their sentence who have a history of good behavior can enter the work-release program. The DOC said inmate escapes have decreased 74 percent in the past five years and the department has a 96 percent recapture rate for the past year.
