Clay County superintendent juggling first 100 days, possibility of replacing Vitti

86 days in, Addison Davis says county schools can be 'world class'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As superintendent of Clay County Public Schools, Addison Davis has been on the job for less than three months, and as he is setting his agenda for Clay County schools, he has been thrown into the conversation as a potential replacement for Duval County Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti, should Vitti accept the same position in Detroit.

"This is a special day for Dr. Vitti, to get a chance to go back to his home town, and give back to a school system that is greatly in need," Davis said. "He has the ability and skill set to go there and do great things and I wish him the best of luck. I'm also flattered that he would believe in me, that I have the ability and skill set to lead the 20th largest school district in the nation.

"But I am the superintendent in Clay County, and am excited about putting initiatives, projects and targets in place to help improve teaching and learning in Clay."

Davis is just on day 85 in his new job. He was previously an administrator in Duval County schools. He has been seeking input from parents, teachers and administrators as part of his Listen and Learn meetings.

"I will say that Clay County has the chance to be a world-class system," Davis said. "Teachers are ready and primed to learn. We have students that are actively engaged. We want parents and community members and faith-based partners to work side by side with my leadership team to create robust attractive programs to help our students to become life-ready."
