Clay County school lunch prices set to rise for first time in five years

Increases follow federal meal price law

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Meal prices in the Clay County School District are increasing, a statement addressed to parents and stakeholders said Thursday.

Elementary school lunch prices increased from $1.75 to $2. The secondary lunch price rose from $2.10 to $2.25. Both the elementary and secondary lunch prices are lower than the statewide averages ($2.12 and $2.42, respectively). District breakfast prices were raised from $1.25 to $1.50.

Clay County is following the Paid Lunch Equity Provision, which makes local food service authorities gradually increase meal prices until they reach the $3.16 federal rate of reimbursement. The statement said the meal price increase helps increase food quality and maintain old equipment and service areas.

The last increase in the Clay County School District meal prices was 2012-2013.
