Jacksonville Beach Pier could partially reopen this fall

RS&H still conducting damage assessment for pier repair project

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – Repairs to the Jacksonville Beach pier are expected to take about two years to complete, but the city of Jacksonville hopes to reopen the pier at least partially by this fall, News4Jax has learned.

City Councilman Bill Gulliford said its likely the end of the pier, which suffered the most damage in Hurricane Matthew last October, will remain closed.

The pier has been closed since 350 feet of it was washed away in the storm surge and high winds of the hurricane. The damage left the pier too dangerous to walk on.

RS&H, the design firm chosen to head the repair project, is still conducted damage assessments.

Gulliford said decking material had been ordered before the hurricane hit, but never got put down, so those materials are available to use in the repairs.
