Ryan Keys gets 10 years for beating handicapped Publix worker

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison and 5 years probation for beating a mentally handicapped Publix worker in 2011.

In March 2012, Ryan Keys pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated disabled adult abuse and resisting an officer without violence.

The attack started when Publix employee Jay Wall went to collect Keys' shopping cart in the parking lot, and Wall gave Keys a compliment on his Georgia Bulldogs shirt. From there, Keys hit Wall several times, knocking him to the ground and knocking out two of his teeth.

Wall has undergone numerous surgeries to repair the damage.

Keys' brother, Cade, who was there during the fight, pleaded guilty as an accessory and is currently serving a three-year sentence. Both brothers were intoxicated during the altercation, prosecutors said.
