DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – James Clark turned 18 just a few weeks ago and he just made the registration deadline to vote in his first election.
"Mainly because it's my first time and we talked about it in school," said Clark. "So being able to do it means a lot of excitement."
Rudolph Grayer is a veteran in the ballot booth, but had reasons to show up at the election office on Tuesday to register.
"I came down here for my wife's voter registration application," said Grayer. "Got married and had to change her name on old voter's card. Keep everything straight so don't have trouble when we vote."
Others showed up at the Duval County Supervisor of Elections office downtown Tuesday night to complete their voter registration cards.
Patrice Dukes, a volunteer for the Obama campaign, spent Tuesday night collecting newly registered voters' ballot and dropping them off at the Supervisor of Elections office.
"These are ballots I collected, so their vote will count," said Dukes.
Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland knew of roughly 5,000 newly registered voters so far on Tuesday afternoon and he expected Jacksonville to set a local record when voters head to the ballot box in early November.
"We're now over 550,000, by time we are finished we hope to be around 560,000 voters. We've never had that many in Duval County," said Holland.
