ST. MARYS, Ga. – New docks for Cumberland Island National Seashore have been completed in coastal Georgia.
The Brunswick News reported the National Park Service has finished a new ferry dock in St. Marys, as well as three docks on the island.

Previous docks were damaged by 2016′s Hurricane Matthew and 2017′s Hurricane Irma, limiting the number of vessels that could tie up. Public docking is now allowed on the island’s Plum Orchard, Dungeness and Sea Camp docks.
The main ferry dock in the coastal town of St. Mary’s was rebuilt with deeper pilings to help it withstand future storms.
The ferry had been using a city dock.
The city now plans to expand its municipal dock, adding 42 to 44 new boat slips. That will let boaters passing through stay for up to 14 days, bolstering tourism in the town.
Completion also means removal of fences and barrels that have been blocking the view along the city’s waterfront.
