Stolen car chase leads to officer-involved crash

Jacksonville officer out of hospital; 2 of 3 suspects in custody

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An officer was injured in a crash Monday morning while chasing three people in a stolen vehicle, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The crash took place around 3 a.m. Monday in the Phoenix neighborhood on the Eastside of Jacksonville. The high-speed chase crossed St. Johns County lines into Duval County, into the Phoenix, Arlington, and Empire Point neighborhoods.

Officer Danielle Wells was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, but released within hours.

Police reported the suspects were in a vehicle stolen in St. Johns County. They fled from police and drove up Interstate 95 into Duval County before exiting in the Phoenix area.

During the pursuit, Wells swerved her patrol car to keep from hitting a citizen's vehicle. Wells' vehicle hit the outside concrete barrier wall before hitting the inside barrier wall.

The suspects continued driving through Arlington and to Carmichael Avenue in Empire Point where the chase ended.

Two suspects were arrested. Police continue to search for the last suspect who is still on the run.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, the suspects stole the vehicle last week during a string of burglaries spanning from the St. Johns County Country Club and Ponte Vedra Beach.
