They said they just want the hostages back home with their families.

“They were minding their own business, they had nothing to do with anything political. And again, they were observing a holiday and they need to come back home,” a resident said.

Justin Sakofs said while he isn’t directly related to Israeli hostages, he still wants them to come home.

“We are all part of one family at the end of the day and we want them all to come home for that reason,” Sakofs said.

The United Nations said over 80% of the population in Gaza has been displaced and more than one million people are close to starvation.

“It’s beyond the posters you use, you feel it, you see it, you know it and as the count keeps going, and we’re up to that 180 days, 181 days, it’s really hard to believe that it could all end with simply turning hostages back and moving forward and looking for that new path,” Sakofs said.

Others were filled with emotions.

“Hamas needs to send them back and hopefully they’re still alive. Because that makes me even more sad. The more time I have to look at those pictures. I get more and more upset that their time away from their home,” another resident said.

Negotiations for the 134 Israeli hostages continue, but no deal has been met.
