PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – An app that allows students to send tips to law enforcement agencies is the reason behind the arrest of a Putnam County student accused of bringing a gun to school.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said a tip on the FortifyFL app led authorities to the 9th grader at QI Roberts Junior-Senior High School.

Deputy Brady, who is assigned to the school, found the student with a gun in their backpack. The deputy secured the handgun and took the student into custody just three minutes after authorities received the alert.

The school did not go under lockdown because the campus was not changing classes and officials did not want to let the student know they were aware of the situation.

The school district called parents and families about the situation as well. School dismissal was not interrupted.

The investigation is ongoing.
