Eggs aren’t only grocery items expected to see price spikes this year

The price of eggs rose by almost 14% last month because bird flu is affecting supply chains.

And it’s not over yet.

The USDA is predicting that grocery prices will keep climbing this year.

Eggs are expected to see the biggest price hikes, but other items are also on the rise.

Beef and veal are projected to go up by 3%, while non-alcoholic drinks might rise by over 4%.

Sweets are set to see the largest increase, jumping nearly 6.5%.

Michael Snipes, an associate professor of economics at USF, suggests that these changes will likely lead to shifts in how people spend their money.

“I think that what this is is kind of an opening salvo of kind of the general population saying enough is enough, something’s got to change,” Snipes said.
